CTO (Chronic Total Occlusion) Treatment
Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) refers to a complete blockage in a coronary artery that has been present for a long time. Treatment is personalized based on your symptoms, the location and extent of the blockage, and your overall health.
Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
In many cases, PCI (also called coronary angioplasty) is an effective, minimally invasive treatment option for CTO. It often results in quicker recovery and less physical stress than open-heart surgery.
During PCI, a cardiologist inserts a thin wire through an artery in your wrist or groin and guides it to the blocked artery using imaging. A small balloon is inflated to open the blockage, and a stent- a tiny metal mesh tube is placed to keep the artery open and restore blood flow.
Talk to your cardiologist to learn more about whether PCI is right for your condition.
